Wanting to promote their 2014 vintage pinot noir, Mount Monument approached Fold Theory with an idea for cardboard wine rack to be sold alongside a six pack of wine as a limited edition gift. Fold Theory suggested combining the wine storage idea with the packaging itself – and why not make it a structurally sturdy seat as well? The wine box stool shifts the perception of a ‘disposable’ material towards a reusable one, in an effort to minimise waste. With or without wine inside it, the stool is designed to support over 700kgs in weight and should last many years, but when it does come to the end of its useful life, few materials can be as simply and efficiently recycled as cardboard.
