Commissioned by the team at Imagination to create centrepiece installations for a large private symposium at Marvel Stadium, their initial brief was to create Art Deco geometries. But Imagination also shared their graphic logo shapes designed for the event, and these were clearly cutouts from an underlying geometry. Given how this naturally gelled with Fold Theory’s design and production methodology anyway, cutting many shapes from a single sheet and reducing waste seemed the obvious solution, rather than directly drawing on Art Deco precedents. By happy accident, this 3D exploration aligned perfectly with the rest of Imagination’s spatial theme for the event and no design changes were needed. The flat-packed set of 60 sculptures arrived on site in a small cardboard box, much to the surprise of the client!
